It's a Yart Sale!
Several of the Fire Diva's are participating in the Yart Sale on Etsy. This is an annual event sponsored by Team ESST. Doing a quick "Yart" search on Etsy yields 28,000+ results... and it's growing!
But, what is a Yart Sale??? Yard + Art = Yart! Handmade items all on sale! Each individual shop can decide what is on sale and what kind of discount to offer.

JUNE'S ~~ Fire Diva of the Month ~~
Hello Divas...Well, it's that time again...Introducing our FIRE DIVA for the month of June...I had the wonderful pleasure of interviewing Janel from Janeldudleybeads...Here is her interview...
What made you want to become a lampwork artist…
I‘ve always had a love for beads. I wanted to learn lampworking so I could make pieces of jewelry look how I really wanted.
How long have you been creating with glass…
In 1997 I took a beginning bead making class with Deb Crowley. She had shown me the basic how-to’s and told me to explore the glass for the next couple of hours. Ever since then I’ve been making beads according to weather/shop conditions.
Where do you find your inspiration…
I think my inspiration mainly comes from the way colors make me feel. Music is also a huge influence, I often find myself working to the beats of songs. People are also a contribution to the way a bead/beads will look like.
In 10 years I see myself…
a. Living in a ranch house.
b. Having a dog again.
c. Growing a garden.
d. Metalsmithing and of course lampworking!

I live in Boulder City, NV the town that built the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead.
I grew up in San Diego, and have lived in Kentucky, Idaho and Colorado.
I am married to a wonderful man named Dan. We have two cats. No kids, perhaps someday soon.
I am a part time waitress, a part time lampworker, a full time wife and a full time free soul.

This piece by far! To get this look, I pulled my own millefiori cane using TAG glass. Findings are Swarovski crystals and silver spacers.

Tell me a little bit about yourself…
My name is Lara Lutrick and I live outside of Seattle. I’m a full time Registered Nurse at a family practice clinic. I make beads on the weekends.

What made you want to become a lampwork artist?
While I was in college I was making simple earrings and bracelets with pressed glass and Indian lampwork beads. While at a local arts and crafts fair in the mid 1990’s I saw and bought my first true artisan lampwork bead. The artist told me that I could take a class at my local bead store. I was immediately hooked.

How long have you been sharing your work with the public?
My early work is with family and friends. I have been sharing my work on online forms since the late 90s, but have been selling since 2003.

I find inspiration in the glass itself. Using a flame to manipulate glass into a bead is like magic. The solid glass becomes a viscous liquid, which can be manipulated into untold numbers of objects. I also like the way that some glass colors react with others (for example turquoise and ivory or silvered glasses on ivory). A similar reaction happens between some glass colors and silver leaf. Using these techniques can create even more colors and patterns in the glass and add depth and texture to the bead.

My dad is a woodworker. He made my desk, bed, jewelry box, chest of drawers, side table, and bookcase. I also own several of his turned bowels and vessels. I cherish those the most.
