Fire Diva at Artfire Interview - Theresa Ehlers of Tease Beads

What brought you and glass together?
I started beading in 2000, and a few years later I saw a lampworker featured on the That's Clever! show. I watched the show every day with hopes they would have more lampworkers on, and when they did, I couldn't tear my eyes from the screen. I was in awe! I knew it was one of those things I wanted to do but would never be able to. Me, melt glass? Yeah, right. Then I went into a local bead shop and they had lampworking intro classes advertised. I signed up immediately and as soon as I took the class I was hooked.

Tell us about your style?
I don't know if I really have a style. I like variety; I'll do florals, sculpt, use shards, murrini, frit...most of the time, I just wing it. I think the only real consistancy is that I rarely do sets; I prefer focals.

You can see more of Theresa's work at her Artfire Shop Teasebeads

Where do you see your work going in the next year?
I don't really have a vision of what I expect to happen in the next year. I can look back and see how much I have improved since I started lampworking, and my main goal is to continue improving and learning new techniques.

The next 5 years?
In about 4 years all three kids will be in school which will enable me to work daily (I only get weekends now). When that happens, I expect to see some dramatic improvements in ability and technique.

What is your one tip for being successful selling glass beads?
I don't know, I haven't gotten there yet! I think the main thing is to take good pictures. That is probably more difficult than lampworking - for me, anyway.

What is your one marketing tip for Artfire?
Join a Guild. It really helps to cross-promote.

Go see what kinds of strange and wonderful things Marcy has been exploring online this week!

On the The Blue Between, you will see some eye candy and a stunning photo of...porta potties?!?! You might want to visit to find out why!

Holly has been contemplating the bead maker as jewelry designer, custom orders and how it has contributed to her OCD (which I totally get!)

9/7 Bead of the Day

Today's Bead of the Day would make the most stunning fall bracelet! This gorgeous set was made my Janel of JanelDudleyBeads on Etsy.

Janel is an amazing artist and she is very generous and kind...she often pops into our Etsy treads to promote others and leaves without plugging single listing of her own! How sweet is that???

You can see more of Janel's lucious work here. And don't forget to check all the Fire Diva's new listings in our Etsy Promo Thread.

We Have A Winner for the Fall Bead Challenge...

This being our first Fire Diva Bead Challenge, I think it was a big success...Looks like we got a nice percentage of votes...Thanks to everyone who participated in promoting, voting, prize donating (myself and Janel) and last but not least ALL WHO ENTERED...

So, one of our wonderful leaders of the Divas, Melissa from Melissabeads, received the most percentage of votes...She has decided to forego the prize due to the fact that she took over the organization of the challenge in the middle of it's enception...Thank you Melissa for all of your hard work and amazing talent...
Therefore, the next entry in line with the most percentage of votes is...DRUM ROLL PLEASE...
Lynne from Islandgirl ...
Here is her winning entry...It's a beauty and a perfect Fall Challenge bead...

CONGRATULATIONS LYNNE...

Beads of the Day 9-4-09

Today's bead is a bunch of beads made into a bracelet by Patty Lakinsmith. This lovely bracelet was pointed out by glassbead in today's Fire Diva Promotion thread on Etsy. This great "cha cha" bracelet is beautiful and would be great for the autumn coming very soon in my neck of the woods. Patty's jewelry is has really grown in leeps and bounds this last year and I am impressed. Check out all of Patty's work at her Etsy shop here: PattyLakinsmith.
Special double picture post becuase I love Patty's "meanies" so much. They just bring a smile to my face and, of course, remind me of Audrey 2 in "Little Shop of Horrors." See a collection of meanies below with a special Cheney Meanie (bottom right) that Patty promoted yesterday.
Check out all the fabulous new beads being listed by the Fire Divas this week in our promotions thread on Etsy!
